This week, plastic surgeons gathered for a great presentation focused on facial procedures at Aquariva overlooking the Willamette River. Oregon Society of Plastic Surgeons allows colleagues to stay in touch with the local community by gathering regularly to discuss new findings and updates in surgery.
An interesting topic this week was nose surgery for treatment of a deviated nasal septum that blocks the nasal airway. We discussed different methods for repair of this condition. The most often described treatment is formal septorhinoplasty, with removal of the deviated nasal septum. However, an alternative which is faster and potentially as effective is opening the airway by shifting rather than removing the septum.
