What is Mole Removal?

Moles are common skin growths. While most moles are harmless, some may look unusual or cause discomfort. Removing these moles helps improve appearance and reduces risk. Dr. Jenq examines each mole in order to discusses the best treatment options with you.

What is Lipoma Removal?

Lipomas are soft, fatty lumps that appear under your skin. They usually don’t cause pain, but they can become bothersome or unsightly. Removing lipomas restores comfort and appearance. Dr. Jenq evaluates each lipoma and provides personalized treatment recommendations.

How are Moles and Lipomas Removed?

Removal of moles and lipomas performed right in our clinic and usually take an hour. You can expect the following:

  • Local Anesthesia: A small injection numbs the skin, so you feel comfortable during the procedure.
  • Removal Process: Removal of the mole or lipoma, and the skin is carefully closed with stitches. Sometimes stitches stay under the skin and dissolve naturally. Other times, visible stitches are removed about a week later.
  • Pathology Check: If needed, we send the removed tissue for pathology. This confirms the diagnosis of the tissue and whether any additional treatment is necessary.
  • Closure of Skin: Sutures are used to close the wound.  Dissolvable buried sutures are usually used and do not need removal.  However some wounds heal best with sutures on visible on the skin which are removed a week later.

Other Mole Removal Options

For moles with clearly benign characteristics, additional simple removal options include:

  • Shave Excision: Shaving the mole flush with the skin surface, leaving a smooth result.  This heals with antibiotic ointment and a bandaid after 1 week.
  • Energy Treatment: Special energy tip turns the mole into a scab, which naturally falls off in a week.

What is the Cost of Mole and Lipoma Removal?

The following prices are for the full self-pay option. Medically necessary excisions can sometimes typically be billed to insurance.
