Techniques
Types of breast reduction
Dr. Jenq recommends the technique that fits how much tissue to remove and the shape you want.
Vertical (lollipop) reduction
For smaller reductions. A scar around the areola and straight down the breast.
Anchor reduction
A dramatic result with complete reshaping. Centers and lifts the breast and strongly contours the “side boob.”

Questions
Breast reduction FAQ
Answers from Dr. Jenq.
Will my insurance cover breast reduction?
Some plans cover breast reduction for symptoms like pain, rashes or limited activity. Our office requests prior authorization for you. If insurance denies coverage, we can give you clear self-pay options and estimates.
Is a breast lift included in a breast reduction?
Yes. Reshaping the tissue moves the nipple to a higher, more centered spot, which improves both comfort and appearance.
Will you deal with my “side boob”?
Yes. Reducing fullness on the sides narrows the breast for a more balanced look. Patients also say they no longer hit their breasts when swinging their arms in sports like golf or tennis.
Will I have drains?
Almost never. Quilting sutures prevent fluid from collecting, and they also reset the breast’s position and contour on the chest wall so side fullness doesn’t come back. How quilting sutures work
Can I breastfeed after a breast reduction?
Some studies show about 80% of patients can breastfeed after a reduction, though some need to supplement with formula. If breastfeeding is very important to you, consider waiting until you’re done with that stage of life.
How is breast cancer screening done after surgery?
If you’re over 40, a mammogram is required within a year before surgery, and removed tissue goes to a lab to confirm it’s healthy. Get a new mammogram six months after surgery for a clear future comparison, then continue regular screening as your doctor advises.
